Due to the growing demand to generate R&D proposals for the Chilean agricultural sector, UC Davis Chile needs to expand its impact through counseling and potential development of biological products.
This professional position requires knowledge of the productive sector in relation to the proof of concepts, prototype evaluation and technological packaging. Areas of expertise include bio-business, biotechnology, microbiology, enzymology, the scaling of biological products (fungi, bacteria, nematodes), fermentation control and development of new formulations.
The Bioproducts Development Coordinator will support projects across industries related to food, agriculture, environmental sciences and forestry. Contribute to and implement strategy, demonstrating creativity, foresight and mature judgment. Through this individual’s expertise in the bio-business, he or she will support “Research to Business Catalyst” (R2B Catalyst), the entrepreneurship platform driven by UC Davis Chile.
Functions and Responsibilities:
• Knowledge, technical insight and judgment of principles and practices in the field of bioprocess scale-up, bioengineering, microbiology, enzymology, and related disciplines to advise teams on solutions to problems.
• Lead industry driven research and development project.
• Generate proposals and lead private research contracts.
• Develop a network of third party contacts to serve as a pool of potential research collaborators to further our understanding of the bio/product demand and assist in the development of new projects.
• Make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative and have critical and far-reaching impact on projects being executed by UC Davis Chile.
• Offer technical advice to R&D programs that UC Davis Chile develops and coordinate the necessary research activities.
• Establish standards of performance and quality of work.
• Visit research establishments, specifically Patagonia Lab Space in Puerto Montt, Chile
• Provide technological advice to researchers of UC Davis Chile and their counterparts.
• Develop effective working relationships with our current and prospective strategic partners.
• Work with the research team in developing, administering and managing project budget.
• Manage and supervise consultants.
• Generate detailed R&D technical reports.
Qualifications/minimum requirements:
• Requirements: PhD with a Postdoctoral formation, at least 5 years of accredited experience and private sector participation in areas of biotechnology and product development are required.
• Represent UC Davis Chile with the absolute highest standards of professionalism; strong fiduciary mindset, uncompromising ethics and integrity; ability to act professionally and handle sensitive, confidential, or privileged information.
• Strong skills in project design and management.
• Knowledge and experience in budget development.
• Abilities / Skills for: results orientation, planning, organization, problem analysis.
• Ability to teamwork and have a commitment to efficiently and thoroughly complete a job.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to bring diverse stakeholders together over a common goal.
• Proficient in both oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
• Ability to domestic and international travel. Regular travel to Puerto Montt is required.
Availability: This is a full time position, starting March 20th 2016.
