Metagenomi.co seeks a Data Scientist

About the Role:

Metagenomi.co is focused on understanding the Earth’s microbiomes. We’re a small startup in San Francisco and we’re building a data-intensive genomics platform to store and analyze microbial genomes for biotech and healthcare applications. As a Data Scientist at Metagenomi, you’ll help us sift through and make sense of all the information we collect in order to help us make better, more informed product decisions, prioritize our work, and uncover patterns in the data that could lead to new feature/product development, all in the aim of bettering our world. You’ll also help us build out our data infrastructure and improve the ways we collect and store information from all sources we have at our disposal (DNA sequence, bioinformatics data, platform performance). You’ll help us build and scale our platform, visualize and make sense of the results, and increase performance and throughput.

Responsibilities:

• Identify gaps in our data infrastructure and help build it out
• Use your data mining and analysis skills to help us understand how we can better
• Suggest new features to the product team based on exploratory analysis
• Help define key metrics and build out dashboards to easily visualize and track them
• Help product and engineering set up experiments and communicate the results out to the team
• Work with our marketing team to enhance our understanding of our customers’ online behaviors and use data to improve/optimize the purchase flow

Requirements: 

• 2+ years doing data mining / quantitative analysis
• BA/BS/MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Biology, or other technical field
• Strong, demonstrated (github repo) programming skills in Python, SQL and Bash shell
• Significant experience with AWS (specifically EC2, S3, SNS, Elasticache and Lambda)
• You are an expert with Linux environments
• Ability to communicate the results of your work with leadership teams in a compelling and easy to understand manner
• Experience as a full-stack engineer

Nice to Have: 

• Have set up AWS data infrastructure from scratch on a professional-level product
• Skill and appreciation for design and data visualizations
• Ruby programming and Rails experience
• Passion to work in a fast-moving biotech startup environment
